YouTube is now allowing various types of content to be fully monetized, instead of partially monetized.
Content creators of YouTube partner programs can now instantly tell whether their video is eligible for full monetization or not by just looking at the color-coded icons in YouTube Studio.
- The green colour icon means your video is eligible for full monetization.
- The yellow colour icon means your video will display limited or no ads.
- The red colour icon means your video is ineligible for monetization.
- The Grey colour icon will tell you that monetization has been manually turned off by the creator.
In a published video on the Creator Insider channel, a YouTube Representative states that
Across the company, we’re aware that when you receive a yellow icon on your content it can feel as if YouTube isn’t being supportive. The advertiser-friendly guidelines are restrictive in some areas more than others because advertisers want the option to opt-in on some content and, in others, have no tolerance for running ads.
Examples of those kinds of areas are content which features graphic dead bodies or really detailed discussions around sexual abuse. So it’s really a balancing act for us making sure you have the best possible opportunity to monetize your content on the platform while making sure that advertisers are still happy to pay for ad space.
YouTube is now taking some of the specific contents out of the yellow icon category. This particular content could not perform properly here. Now when this special content comes under the green color icon, then the content creators will get opportunities to earn more revenue.
Changes will be applied to the following types of content
YouTube is going to expand the monetization of educational, news, and documentary content in which video will eligible to show violent interactions with law enforcement, recreational drugs, or drug-related content, as well as sensitive events.
YouTube is now expanding the scope of monetization of those controversial issues. In which the content will not be in graphic, but rather the controversial issue will be discussed.
YouTube is also expanding the monetization of adult topics content that uses the context of humor.
